One thing about games on Facebook. This is part of the learning to stand bit. You can go to every one of those games that your friends play, and block the application. I play a few of the games regularly, but there are games in which I have no interest whatsoever, and when they pop up in the update stream, I take a few minutes and go and block them. Then I never have to see them again.

There's no reason everybody can't enjoy themselves on FB (or any other social medium) in their own way without arousing ire in their friends and family.

It works the other way around, too. A few minutes of setting up friend lists in the beginning lets you filter what you post and to whom. So if you want to discuss a topic that you're pretty sure is going to offend Aunt Mabel, put Aunt Mabel in your Family list and when you want to talk about that topic, set your post to Custom and block the Family list from reading it.

This is all stuff you can learn if you take the time. Have fun. ;)

Couldn't agree more Doyle! The social media 'experts' or 'gurus' are filled with more hot air than a political convention. I chuckle every time I hear it.

Great post

Hi Erika, awesome post. Its so important to have the correct etiquette with the social media circle. I especially love your point about not following 5,000 people before you send a Tweet.

I find it so amusing to see people with these huge followings, (obviously built using auto follow tools) and they've sent out 1 Tweet that says "What's up World?" Gotta love it I tell you.

Awesome advice though.

Such a great point about the social media gurus. It always concerns me, I have a slightly mocking Twitter list of Socila Media Gurus, they know I am just teasing and they do provide some useful information, but in the end, there are also times they ask me for assistance with things, as well. We are all learning our way around.

Great post. Thanks!

I'm always surprised by people that want to suspend basic manners just because we're typing instead of talking. If we do nothing but start to curb that belief, social media will make another giant step forward.

Glad you enjoyed the post!

Thanks, Alex! Glad you enjoyed it. I mostly came up with this just so I could tell my wife that I wasn't watching cable repeats, I was working! :-)

Again, thanks!
