I write. For a living. Glory be – people pay to hear what I have to say. Today, I take on Proposition 8 in my weekly column at ToyWithMe.com.

Perhaps I’ll lose some fans. Perhaps I’ll gain some. This is how I feel, and if you know me, I have no problem telling you how I feel. The GLBT community isn’t asking for better or different treatment from the U.S. Government. Rather, they’re asking to be included in the system that their taxpayer dollars support day in, day out.

What would happen if the government got out of the marriage business and, instead, got into the civil-partnership business, allowing any two people to form such a union?

We already have that now for heterosexuals. People marry all the time for medical benefits. Why not allow legal unions for all? People funnel income through LLCs and S-corps for the tax benefits, so civil partnerships? A step behind the curve.
